2022: I'm in the art studio slathering paint on three 30 x 40 canvases, and I'm really excited at having the freedom to just do that. I usually use my reds, yellows, oranges, turquoise blues and purples, and just have a great time making big circles and white and black. And that's kind of how I like cover a canvas just kind of to do an underpainting. Then I see what I feel like doing on top of that. So it's just playtime.

Once the paint dried, I thought, you know, I'm going to make some flowers. I don't usually do flowers, but I wanted to give it a go. So I used some stencils for texture, and I covered up the background with various transparent paints and designs in purple, magenta and gold. You can still see some of the reds and turquoise blues from the original paintings show through, which makes it interesting, I think.

Next I put on these white flowers using palette knives, and they are so fun to create texture with. My daughter thinks their centers look like hearts - kind of fun. I didn't really know that when I was painting it.  Anyway, I think to myself, this is so great. I'm going to have a flower painting but I couldn't get the vase right. It took me almost two years of painting different vases into the same painting to finally get it right.

Failed Vase

Getting closer!

So how did I finally resolve the dilemma? Well, AI came along and I discovered the DALL-E art app. I asked it to show me pictures of white vases in bulbous shapes, and after some experimentation, I finally got one that showed me where the light should go on the shape that I wanted . So finally I finished it just a couple of months ago and now you get to see it and you can have it in your collection. It's titled “Flowers with Iterative Vase”!
